]]> As the Gaudreau family grieves the loss of brothers Johnny and Matthew, who were killed by an alleged drunk driver last August in Salem County, they are working to honor their memory.

That was the goal of the inaugural Gaudreau Family 5K Run, Walk & Family Fun Day held Saturday in Gloucester County.

The event celebrated the brothers and raised funds for a new playground at a school with a personal connection to the family.

]]> When South Jersey’s Cowtown Rodeo decided last year to eliminate breakaway ropers for women, Carol Ann Nieratko knew she had to do something about it.

As the owner and producer of Rustic River Events, Nieratko began organizing her own Jersey rodeo.

Now, Ocean County’s inaugural rodeo is in full swing, bringing the thrills of this traditionally western and southern sport to the Jersey Shore for men — and women — aiming to compete at the professional level. Although women can compete at other levels, competing at the professional level allows them to earn from the sport and helps them qualify for national competitions

]]> Gloucester County Amateur Radio Club President Jonathan Pearce, 76, of Deptford recalls the “devastating” 2021 tornado that ravaged through neighborhoods and “doubled over” the radio facility’s approximately 70 to 80 foot antenna towers.

“It ripped through Mullica Hill,” he said. “And it ripped off the tops of a whole bunch of houses, and we (the facility) were right smack in its path.”

Two years later, bouts of severe weather that have continued to affect South Jersey — including a June 5 tornado warning in Salem County — are shedding light on the fragility of the modern digital communication networks and generating increased interest in obtaining amateur radio certification, club members explain.

At New Jersey’s best, most authentic Irish pub, good luck finding any shamrocks, and the street and town signs on the wall are actually from Ireland, with several funny stories behind them. We’ll get to those later.

“I didn’t want a Disney theme Irish pub or a plastic Irish pub,” explains Todd Faulkner, owner of Tir na nOg in Trenton.

NJ Dogs of Honor was formed in 2018 to help veterans dealing with post-traumatic stress by matching them with service dogs free of charge.

The Cumberland County-based nonprofit is open to eligible vets anywhere in the state as long as they can travel to Millville for training with their dog.

Working from photographs, 28 teams recreated iconic Princeton structures out of LEGO building blocks. Participants chose from more than 50 historic structures, famous residences, community buildings, and houses of worship. When the models were finished, they were added to a map of Princeton.

Bloodworth said she could no longer tolerate the prevailing “complacent” attitudes over the near-abortion ban in Texas last year, which the U.S. Supreme Court reinforced by overturning Roe v. Wade in June and let each state set its own abortion laws.
